Volunteer Opportunities
Unitarian Universalists of Coastal
Georgia have an active Social Justice program. The focus for this year
will be FaithWorks Ministries, an ecumenical group drawing from many
area churches. Opportunities to serve the community through FaithWorks
include delivering food and other essential items to some of the
community's neediest families, mentoring students, and working in a
community garden. Baskets are in the church lobby for items to be contributed to Faithworks. Needs include clothing, toiletries, games and household
items. Contributions can be made at any time. In the past few years, the
church has provided assistance to Safe Harbor, a shelter for youths,
Harmony Square, a day care provider, and LARC, which provides services for Latinos.
The congregation also is involved with the Glynn Environmental Coalition, a community organization dedicated to providing a clean environment and healthy economy in the Golden Isles area. We have marched regularly in the Martin Luther King parade, participated in roadside trash clean ups and helped the Brunswick police with a gun buy back program.
UUCG has joined with the GlynnPeace
group in efforts to make a statement proclaiming our desire for peace in
the world. A peace vigil was held after one of our services, and we
participated in a peace poetry reading.
The Social Justice Team now is providing a service on the second Sunday of each month, bringing in speakers, films and displays on social justice issues in our community. The service is at 10:30 am, the same time as our regular worship services on the first and third Sundays.
